Glass thickness: where your money actually goes Two bongs can look identical and be worlds apart in the hand. Glass thickness is measured in millimeters, and it's the difference between a piece that survives a tip-over and one that doesn't. 3mm is entry-level — fine if you're careful and on a budget. 5mm is the standard we point most people toward: noticeably solid, survives everyday clumsiness. 7mm–9mm is tank territory, usually on premium borosilicate pieces.
